This page explains what cookies and similar technologies we use on brazilianbeautyindex.com, what each one does, and how you can change your mind at any time. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy.
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device when you visit. Cookies let the site remember things about your visit — your language preference, whether you have already dismissed a banner, an anonymous identifier for analytics. Similar technologies (local storage, session storage, pixel tags) work in much the same way and are covered by this policy.
2. Why we use them
We use cookies for three reasons:
- to make the site work (e.g. remembering your cookie choice itself);
- to understand which articles and tools are useful, in aggregate, so we know what to write more of;
- to remember small functional preferences if you opt in to them (for example, hair-type segment for newsletter personalisation).
We do not use cookies for cross-site behavioural advertising, profiling for third parties, or anything that requires a tracking pixel from an ad network.
3. Categories of cookies we use
Strictly necessary Always on
These are required for the site to work. They cannot be switched off in our banner because the site would not function properly without them. They store no personal information beyond what is needed for the request.
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
bbi_consent | Remembers your cookie banner choice. | 12 months |
__session | Anonymous session token used for security (e.g. CSRF protection on forms). | Session only |
vercel_* | Set by our hosting provider for routing and load balancing. | Session / 1 day |
Analytics Opt-in
These help us understand how readers use the site, in aggregate. We use them only after you accept on the cookie banner. We do not pass personal data to advertisers and we have IP-anonymisation switched on.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics 4 | Distinguishes unique visitors. | 24 months (we set retention to 14 months in GA4) |
_ga_* | Google Analytics 4 | Session state for GA4. | 24 months |
_vercel_insights | Vercel Web Analytics (if enabled) | Aggregated page-load and performance metrics. | 30 days |
Functional Opt-in
These remember small preferences so you do not have to set them again. They are only set if you opt in or actively use the relevant feature.
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
bbi_segment | Stores the hair-type segment from the assessment tool so the newsletter can be tailored. | 6 months |
bbi_exit_seen | Prevents the exit-intent popup from showing again in the same session. | Session only |
bbi_dismiss_newsletter | Hides the newsletter banner if you have dismissed it. | 30 days |
Marketing
We do not currently set any third-party marketing cookies. If that changes — for example, if we run paid campaigns that need a conversion pixel — we will list the cookies here and ask for your consent on the banner before they are set.
4. Third-party cookies
The third parties that may set cookies on this site are:
- Google LLC — Google Analytics 4. Privacy info: policies.google.com/privacy. Opt-out: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
- Vercel Inc. — hosting and optional Web Analytics. Privacy info: vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.
- Cloudflare, Inc. — where used in front of the CDN for security. Privacy info: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
We do not embed third-party social media widgets, comment systems or chat widgets that drop their own cookies. If you click out to a sister retail site (Keratin & Care, Braé UK, KAC Pro) or to a third-party retailer, that site's cookies are governed by its own policy.
5. How to manage your cookies
On this site
You can change or withdraw your cookie consent at any time by clicking the button below — this will clear your previous choice and ask again on your next page view.
In your browser
All major browsers let you see, block or delete cookies. Where you find the controls depends on the browser:
Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site from working — for example, forms that rely on a session token.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
The "Do Not Track" header has been deprecated and we do not act on it. We do respect the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal: if your browser sends GPC, we treat it as a request to opt out of non-essential cookies and skip setting analytics and functional cookies for that session.
6. Changes to this policy
If we add a cookie, remove one, or change a supplier, this page is updated and the "Last updated" date at the top changes. Where a change introduces a new category of cookie, the banner will re-prompt for consent.
